En el marco del Programa de Cooperación Internacional con UFZ de Leipzig-Halle, Alemania y el apoyo de SECYT, UNCuyo, el CIFOT realiza (1998) el “ Atlas Socioeconómico y Demográfico de los Departamentos del Gran Mendoza” , titulado "Atlas Social de la Ciudad de Leipzig” en Alemania. Tienen como objetivo la generación de Bancos de Datos (tecnología GIS) para el análisis estadístico de indicadores seleccionados y elaboración de Cartografía base y temática. Para su elaboración se forma un equipo de trabajo interdisciplinario que apartan al sistema diferentes visiones del mismo tema. Consta de 3 partes: introducción con características de las zonas en estudio, otra parte con incorporación de mapas y una tercera que es la traducción al inglés del texto. Ambos Atlas resultaron ser elementos de gran utilidad en la planificación territorial de un área como el Gran Mendoza, de fuerte presencia frente al Mercosur, y de Liepzig, ciudad europea en transformación desde 1990.

In the framework of the International Cooperation Programme with UFZ from Leipzig-Halle, Germany and the SECYT, UNCuyo support, the “Socioeconomic and Demographic Atlas of the Big Mendoza Boroughs”, Argentina and the “Social Atlas from the City of Leipzig”, Germany, are produced (1998). The aim is the comparison between both cities, the same size but belonging to different realities. The Big Mendoza, urban built-up area from the west of Argentina where important transformations associated to MERCOSUR, and Liepzig, a European city which, after the Berlin wall fall, shows significant changes in its morphology. It consists of 3 parts: the introduction where the studied zones are characterized, the central body where thematic maps are incorporated, analysis, correlation and synthesis maps are included, and a third one, the English translation of the text.
