La noción de Modernidad hace referencia a los modos de vida y organización socio-política que surgieron en Europa alrededor del siglo XVI en adelante. Si bien, a partir de entonces, algunas mujeres participaron de los grandes cambios, en general, ellas fueron víctimas de una serie de discursos performativos de su identidad. María de Zayas adopta una actitud crítica frente a esos discursos patriarcales, que limitan su condición de sujeto. De este modo se convierte en una precursora de algunos derechos de las mujeres al reclamar la igualdad y criticar la sujeción física, intelectual y moral.

The notion of Modernity refers to the ways of life and socio-political organization that emerged in Europe around the 16th century onwards. Even though from that time some women took part in the major changes, in general, they were the victims of a series of performative discourses about their identity. María de Zayas adopts a new critical attitude towards those patriarchal discourses, which limit her condition as a subject. In this way, she turns into a precursor of some women’s rights by demanding equality and criticizing their physical, intellectual and moral subjection.
