El artículo presenta una síntesis de la obra escrita de Veracruz y, en parte, también de su acción. De tal modo, se exponen sus escritos filosóficos, en materia de lógica (Recognitio Summularum y Dialectica Resolutio) y de filosofía natural (Physica Speculatio), y las relecciones en las que se ocupó de los títulos de la conquista y la condición de los indios (De dominio infidelium y De decimis). También es propósito del trabajo proporcionar, a quien quiera continuar con el tema, una guía de buena parte de la abundante literatura secundaria que se ha ocupado de Fray Alonso de la Veracruz. Veracruz es un importante representante de la escolástica novohispana del siglo XVI, y simboliza el comienzo del trasplante filosófico que bajo el signo de la escolástica se extendería en Iberoamérica hasta el siglo XVIII y parte del XIX.

This article presents a synthesis of Veracruz’s written production and, partly, also of his action. Thus, his philosophical writings are presented, both in the aspect of logic (Recognitio Summularum y Dialectica Resolutio) and of natural philosophy (Physica Speculatio), as well as the lessons in which he devoted himself to the issues of the conquest and of the condition of the indians (De dominio infidelium and De decimis). It is also the aim of this paper, for those wishing to enlarge on this topic, to provide a guide to a considerable body of the bulky parallel literature that has dealt with Fray Alonso de la Veracruz. Veracruz is a major representative of the new- Hispanic scholastic manifestation of the XVIth century, and he symbolizes the beginning of the philosophical transplantation that under the sign of scholasticism would spread over Spanish America until the XVIIIth century and part of the XIXth century as well.
